Turning Against Kwankwaso Comes With Consequences’ – Umar.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Umar described the speculation as exaggerated, insisting that Kwankwaso remains the most influential political figure in Kano and beyond.

He rejected claims that Kwankwaso would lose influence if Yusuf leaves, emphasizing that the former presidential candidate wields national relevance.

“No matter how strong any political party claims to be, they are all chasing Kwankwaso. He is the only leader in this country who truly stands for the masses,” Umar said.

Citing past political experiences in Kano, Umar warned that betraying Kwankwaso often carries consequences. “Betraying Kwankwaso does not end well; history proves it. Look at the previous administration. Ganduje betrayed Kwankwaso and eventually lost,” he said.

He also highlighted Kwankwaso’s role in Governor Yusuf’s rise, noting that even without grassroots control, the former presidential candidate delivered victory for Yusuf in 2023. “By 2023, even without a single councillor in government, Kwankwaso single-handedly brought in ‘Abba Gida Gida.’”

Umar emphasized that Yusuf’s political career was built entirely on Kwankwaso’s influence. “Abba had never contested for any position before. He served as Kwankwaso’s PA for over 30 years, and it was Kwankwaso who elevated him to commissioner and then governor. To think Kwankwaso will lose now is myopic,” he said.

When asked if the APC and Yusuf could be the ultimate losers, Umar affirmed. “Yes, they will lose in Kano. The people will vote massively for anyone Kwankwaso chooses. In Kano, if Kwankwaso chooses a dog, the people will vote for it because they trust him.”

He dismissed concerns that the Kwankwasiyya Movement would collapse without state resources. “The other side may boast about government money and resources, but people are wise now. Many are just waiting to see what they can get,” Umar said.

Umar added that Kwankwaso has advised loyalists in government positions to remain calm and strategic, even if Yusuf joins the APC. “They should stay as strong pillars on standby. The time for action will come,” he said, while denying that this strategy aims to undermine the government from within.

He also claimed that the APC’s interest lies in Kwankwaso, not Yusuf. “The APC isn’t really looking for Gov Yusuf; they are looking for Kwankwaso. That is why you hear so many rumours,” Umar said.

Finally, he insisted that the Kwankwasiyya identity, symbolized by the red cap, remains intact despite internal disagreements. “Even if they move to the APC, they wouldn’t dare remove the red cap. Taking it off would be the most dangerous thing—they would lose their political safety. You cannot tell the people of Kano that you are safe from Kwankwaso’s ideology,” Umar concluded.
