According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operations formed part of intensified security patrols aimed at safeguarding residents and visitors during the festive season.
The police, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued two abducted victims during a coordinated search mission on April 18, 2025. The victims had been kidnapped on April 13 in Amorka Village, Uli, along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway. The armed assailants had ambushed their vehicle, forcing them into another car before escaping, leaving the victims’ vehicle behind, which was later recovered by police officers.
In another related operation, police officers from Fegge Division intercepted a suspiciously parked bus along Port Harcourt Road in Upper Iweka, Onitsha. Upon inspection, they discovered five pump-action rifles, eight live cartridges, and two handcuffs concealed in a bag of rice inside the vehicle. Both the bus and the weapons were taken into police custody, with investigations ongoing to identify those responsible.
Additionally, acting on intelligence, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Israel Akachukwu, at his residence on Ezeigwe Street in Nkpor, Idemili North LGA. Items recovered from his home include two pump-action guns, live ammunition, a cutlass, an axe, and a dagger. The suspect, who confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity, is cooperating with authorities in tracking down his accomplices.
The police have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts against criminal elements in the state to ensure public safety and order.
