Voters Left Waiting At FCT Polling Unit After INEC Officials Bring Wrong BVAS.

Voters at Bako Primary School polling unit in Kwali, Abuja, expressed frustration on Saturday morning after officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reportedly arrived with the wrong Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) device, delaying the start of accreditation and voting.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

By around 9:17 a.m., accreditation had not yet begun at Polling Unit 37/05/03/003, according to SaharaReporters. The polling centre, located in Pai Ward of Kwali Area Council within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was captured on video showing voters waiting patiently while election officials tried to fix the technical issue.

Several voters voiced concern that the delay could disrupt the overall voting process. Sources at the scene said INEC admitted to bringing the incorrect BVAS machine, leaving voters stranded until the correct device arrived.

“INEC came with the wrong BVAS. Voters are waiting for the right machine,” a source noted. Video footage showed groups of voters standing around, visibly irritated as they awaited the proper accreditation equipment.

The BVAS device is crucial for Nigeria’s elections, as it biometrically verifies voter identities before ballots are issued. Any delay in its deployment can affect voting timelines and raise fears of potential disenfranchisement.

Elsewhere in the FCT Area Council elections, logistical challenges were also reported, with some voters struggling to locate their assigned polling units. Many residents were seen moving between centres, citing poor communication and inadequate guidance.

A Platinum TV correspondent encountered voters trying to confirm their voting locations. One voter, Precious, said she had been unable to find her polling unit.

“My name is Precious,” she said. “No, this is not my polling unit. I’m trying to find Regina Health Centre, but it’s been difficult.”

She explained that her struggles were mainly due to being unfamiliar with the neighbourhood. “It wasn’t because I’m not familiar. I don’t live around this side, so it’s kind of very difficult,” she added.

Numerous voters continued moving between centres in search of their correct polling units, with some alleging they had received unclear or misleading directions.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
