Osun payroll audit: Gov Adeleke seeks ICPC probe.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has formally called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate allegations of a padded payroll within the state’s civil service.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a letter dated February 20, 2026, sent to the ICPC chairman via the commission’s Osogbo office, Governor Adeleke requested verification of reports stemming from a staff audit conducted on the Osun State payroll.

The governor noted that upon taking office, his administration inherited claims of “ghost workers and padded payroll” allegedly left behind by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

According to the letter, “the state government engaged Sally Tibbot, an audit firm, to examine the payroll records covering the period from 2018 to November 2022. The review aimed to assess the integrity of the staff list and verify personnel expenditures. The audit firm submitted its report on 27 June 2024.”

Governor Adeleke said he subsequently directed that the audit’s recommendations be implemented to remove any identified irregularities. However, controversy arose following the publication of the findings, particularly after some senior officials were reportedly named among alleged ghost workers.

“In view of the controversies generated, I constituted a review committee comprising representatives of the audit firm and labour union leaders in the state,” the letter stated. The committee was tasked with re-examining the original audit and addressing stakeholder concerns over the inclusion of certain names.

The governor requested that the ICPC deploy forensic auditors to scrutinize both the initial audit report and the review committee’s findings to “authenticate the correctness or otherwise of the review committee report vis-à-vis the report submitted by the audit firm.” He confirmed that copies of both reports had been sent to the commission and expressed appreciation for its anticipated review.

On Friday, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government exchanged statements over the alleged N13.7 billion payroll audit. While the Osun APC claimed a N13.7 billion annual payroll fraud under Governor Adeleke’s administration, the state government dismissed the allegation as baseless.

The Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the claims as misleading, linking them to a disputed audit covering the period before the current administration took office.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
