“Give Tinubu 2–3 Years” — Cole Urges Nigerians To Wait For Reform Impact.

The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has said Nigerians may need to wait another two to three years before the full impact of the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu becomes evident.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Cole made the remark on Tuesday while speaking on Political Paradigm on Channels Television, where he addressed concerns about the slow translation of macroeconomic improvements into real benefits for citizens.

Responding to a question on when Nigerians would begin to feel relief, he said the process could take longer if it follows a natural course without accelerated interventions.

He noted that while economic indicators may show signs of improvement, the real measure of success lies in how policies affect the daily lives of ordinary citizens, particularly in areas such as food, transportation, and employment.

Reform Possible, Not Hate — Police PRO Appeals Amid Criticism

Cole emphasised the need for targeted and deliberate policies to ensure that economic gains reach the broader population, adding that governments must commit substantial resources to improving living conditions.

He observed that existing incentives have not been sufficiently widespread to meet the needs of Nigeria’s large population.

Despite current economic challenges, he expressed optimism about the country’s long-term outlook, pointing to growing investor confidence.

Since assuming office in 2023, the Tinubu administration has introduced reforms including the removal of fuel subsidies, unification of the foreign exchange system, tax adjustments, local government autonomy measures, and student loan initiatives aimed at driving sustainable growth.

However, the policies have also led to rising inflation and increased living costs, drawing criticism from opposition groups and sections of the public.

On the political situation in Rivers State, Cole described the environment as uncertain, alleging that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has faced challenges in asserting strong leadership.

He added that while the governor initially enjoyed public sympathy, some residents are beginning to express dissatisfaction.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Cole said there is a growing openness among voters in Rivers State to political change, expressing confidence that credible and peaceful polls could significantly reshape the state’s political landscape.

A former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, is also named in the charge but is currently said to be at large.

The defendants will appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik to answer a 13-count charge involving conspiracy, attempted treason, terrorism, failure to report security intelligence, terrorism financing, and money laundering.

Prosecutors allege that the accused persons conspired in 2025 to undermine the Nigerian state, claiming they planned to “levy war against the state to overpower the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

They are also accused of having prior knowledge of an alleged treason plot involving Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others, but allegedly failed to report it to relevant authorities.

According to the prosecution, the defendants did not promptly notify the President or any peace officer, despite being aware of the planned offence, and also failed to take steps to prevent it.

Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and Zekeri Umoru were specifically alleged to have attended meetings linked to the plot, which prosecutors say were aimed at promoting a political ideology capable of destabilising Nigeria’s constitutional order.
