Lagos Judiciary Pays Tribute to Late Magistrate Ogunkanmi at Valedictory Session
Stakeholders from across the judiciary gathered last week at the Ikeja High Court complex, Lagos, to honor the late Magistrate Eniola Olusanmi Ogunkanmi during a valedictory court session. Key figures present included the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, as well as other distinguished members of the legal community, such as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), the NBA president, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), Magistrates, and numerous staff members.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Justice Alogba spoke highly of Ogunkanmi, describing him as a courageous and compassionate judge who left a lasting impact on Lagos State’s judiciary. He highlighted Ogunkanmi’s humility, kindness, and role as a loving father and husband.
Ogunkanmi, who joined the judiciary as a Magistrate Grade 2 on May 22, 2001, held various roles throughout his career, rising to Chief Magistrate and ultimately being appointed Head of the Department of Litigation in September 2024. His tenure was marked by his commitment to integrity, fairness, and dedication to justice. He also became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria in 2013, further expanding his legal expertise.
The late Magistrate, born on December 19, 1966, in Lagos, was the fourth child in a family of eight and was deeply rooted in his family values. He is survived by his wife, Deaconess Wojuoluwa Abiola Ogunkanmi, and their three children.
In addition to the tributes from the judiciary, prominent figures such as the NBA president and Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN) praised Ogunkanmi’s personal and professional qualities, noting his humility, integrity, and outstanding contributions to the legal community. His colleagues emphasized his unwavering commitment to justice and his nurturing, caring nature both in and out of the courtroom.
The Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria and various legal practitioners also expressed their respect for Ogunkanmi, reflecting on his legacy and the lessons learned from his life. His death served as a reminder of the transient nature of life, leaving all who knew him with a profound sense of loss and admiration.
