NNPC Confirms Petrol Prices for September 2024: Dollar Payments to Dangote Refinery Revealed....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has officially announced the estimated prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, for September 2024. These prices apply to petrol sourced from the Dangote Refinery and sold at NNPC retail stations across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, on Monday, the company revealed that PMS prices would vary based on location, with the pricing structure reflecting the current market dynamics. Notably, these prices are not set by the government, but are the result of negotiations between parties, in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

NNPC Purchases Petrol at N898 per Litre from Dangote Refinery

On Sunday, the NNPC disclosed it had purchased petrol from the Dangote Refinery at a price of N898 per litre, dismissing earlier reports that suggested a lower price of N760. According to the statement, the company began receiving petrol shipments from Dangote Refinery on Sunday, with around 300 trucks dispatched to the refinery’s 650,000-barrel-per-day facility in Lagos the day before.

Soneye emphasized that this transaction reflects the company’s commitment to transparent market practices, stressing that PMS prices are negotiated at arm’s length between the buyer and the seller, as stipulated under Section 206 (1) of the PIA.

Dangote Group’s Response to NNPC’s Claim

Despite NNPC’s announcement, Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, criticized the company’s statement, calling the claim that petrol was purchased at N898 per litre “misleading and mischievous.” This disagreement highlights potential discrepancies in the reported pricing and creates uncertainty regarding the final cost at retail stations.

Petrol Prices Across Nigeria

Based on Dangote Refinery’s September 2024 PMS pricing, the estimated pump prices for petrol across various regions are as follows:

  • Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT): N999.22 per litre
  • Borno State: N1,019.22 per litre
  • Lagos State: N950.22 per litre
  • Oyo State: N960.22 per litre
  • Rivers and Imo States: N980.22 per litre

Katsina State is currently facing supply challenges, according to the company.

Dollar Payments and Future Naira Transactions

In addition to the pricing details, the NNPC confirmed that payments for the September 2024 petrol offtake from Dangote Refinery were made in U.S. dollars. This aligns with the terms of the agreement between both parties. However, Soneye also noted that from October 1, 2024, the NNPC will transition to making payments in Naira for future transactions.

Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has called on Nigerians to stop targeting the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, with their frustrations regarding the state of the nation. She contends that the clergyman is being incorrectly singled out and is not to blame for Nigeria’s current difficulties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ezekwesili emphasized the following points in her statement:

  • She characterized Adeboye as a humble servant of God who has spent his life advocating for peace and national development.

  • While acknowledging that many Nigerians want religious leaders to be more vocal in demanding government accountability, she maintained that Adeboye has consistently offered prayers and spoken up for the nation.

  • She explained that long-standing issues—such as systemic corruption, economic hardship, and insecurity—have left Nigerians exhausted and deeply distrustful of politicians, institutions, and influential figures.

  • She warned that the country has a tendency to prioritize less significant issues rather than addressing urgent national crises.

  • Ezekwesili noted that while Adeboye typically responds to criticism with “dignified silence,” she felt compelled to speak publicly to refocus attention on the “urgency of this moment” and the core issue: the need for religious leaders to help rescue the nation from “ineffectual, corrupt, and selfish politicians”.

The security operation led to significant disruptions, including:

  • Checkpoints and barricades were established on major roads leading to the Villa, restricting both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

  • Many employees were unable to reach their workplaces due to these movement restrictions.

  • Heavy traffic congestion occurred along the corridors of the Supreme Court, the National Assembly, and the Federal Secretariat, leaving many commuters stranded and forcing others to find alternative routes.

The demonstration, organized by human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore alongside the Take It Back Movement, was planned to begin at Eagle Square before moving toward the Presidential Villa. The primary goal of the protest is to demand the immediate release of all victims kidnapped nationwide. Furthermore, organizers have called for President Bola Tinubu to either ensure the safety and release of the captives or resign, citing a perceived failure of the government to protect citizens. This protest reflects growing public outcry regarding the frequency of school attacks and kidnappings, as well as a broader demand for increased accountability and improved security across Nigeria.
