Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving security and advancing agricultural development in the region. His statements came during a recent meeting with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, at the Government House in Katsina.
During their discussion, Radda emphasized the importance of collaboration between the state government and the armed forces. He appealed for continued support from the Chief of Air Staff, highlighting the crucial role of military assistance in ensuring stability in the state. “We assure the armed forces of our readiness to support their efforts in any way we can,” Radda said, praising the improvements made to facilities at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport under military leadership.
Addressing the root causes of banditry in Katsina, Radda identified unemployment, illiteracy, and a lack of livelihood opportunities as significant contributors to the state’s security challenges. Noting that approximately 90 percent of Katsina’s population is engaged in agriculture, he stated that the government has prioritized investments in this vital sector. “Last week, we deployed about N30 billion to purchase equipment for mechanized farming,” Radda revealed, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity. He also mentioned that Katsina has procured and distributed more fertilizers than any other state in Nigeria.
As part of its agricultural initiatives, the state plans to distribute over 4,000 solar-powered irrigation pumps, with a particular focus on engaging the youth in farming. Radda asserted, “This initiative will not only enhance food security but also provide sustainable livelihoods for our young people.”
On the security front, Radda highlighted the role of the Katsina State Security Watch, which has led to the arrest of over 1,000 informants involved in criminal activities. The governor explained, “We are actively engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads to identify and eliminate suspicious elements within our communities.”
In response, Air Marshal Abubakar commended the state government’s efforts in improving intelligence gathering and sharing. He noted that the focus on security over the past year has created a conducive environment for sustained socioeconomic growth in Katsina. The COAS also expressed appreciation for Radda’s commitment to establishing the Katsina Community Watch Corps, which aims to further enhance local security.
Moreover, Abubakar assured the governor of his intention to deploy additional Special Forces troops to the Nigerian Air Force Quick Reaction Wings located in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua. This strategic deployment aims to bolster the capabilities of the armed forces and other security agencies in the region.
