The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has unveiled plans for the highly anticipated 30th Nigerian Economic Summit, taking place from October 14 to 16, 2024, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. This year’s summit, themed “Collaborative Action for Growth, Competitiveness, and Stability,” aims to tackle Nigeria’s urgent socioeconomic challenges through meaningful dialogue between public and private sectors.

In a statement released on Saturday by Ms. Ayanyinka Ayanlowo, the Acting Head of Strategic Communication and Advocacy at NESG, the summit will focus on developing actionable strategies to address issues related to stability, economic growth, and inclusivity in Nigeria. Ayanlowo emphasized, “The theme encapsulates the essence of what is needed to propel Nigeria toward a more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient future.”

This year’s summit marks a significant milestone for the NESG, an organization that has played a crucial role in Nigeria’s economic transformation over the past three decades. Ayanlowo highlighted that the Nigerian Economic Summit has been key in shifting the country from a state-led economy to a more dynamic, private-sector-driven one. “This summit will continue to build on that legacy, facilitating discussions that will influence the nation’s policies and strategies,” she said.

One of the summit’s primary objectives will be fostering collaboration among government agencies, businesses, civil society, and international partners. This collaboration is vital for addressing Nigeria’s current socioeconomic challenges and creating a stable environment that encourages growth and investment. Ayanlowo stated, “We need collective action now more than ever. Stability cannot be achieved by one sector alone; it requires synergy across all stakeholders.”

The NESG reiterated Nigeria’s significant role in shaping Africa’s economic landscape, noting that the country’s performance directly affects regional dynamics due to its large domestic market, abundant natural resources, and corporate influence across the continent. “Nigeria is not just an economic powerhouse for itself but for the whole of Africa. The strategies and outcomes from this summit will have a far-reaching impact, not only within Nigeria but across Africa as a whole,” Ayanlowo explained.

The 30th Nigerian Economic Summit will also emphasize promoting inclusive growth by identifying policies that ensure no segment of society is left behind. The summit aims to address inequalities through discussions on job creation, entrepreneurship, and innovative solutions that can drive competitiveness. “We must ensure that growth reaches all Nigerians, from the most urban to the most rural areas. This summit is not just about policy but about tangible actions that can uplift everyone,” the statement asserted.

Over the years, the Nigerian Economic Summit has been instrumental in driving critical reforms in sectors such as banking, telecommunications, and energy. With the 30th edition, the NESG plans to build on these achievements by outlining a clear path toward a more integrated and prosperous Nigeria.

According to the NESG, the outcomes of this year’s summit will play a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s future economic policies. Ayanlowo remarked, “The deliberations from NES #30 will be crucial in formulating policies that harness Nigeria’s potential to drive the transformation of the continent. We are looking forward to productive discussions that will yield concrete results.”

Shockwaves In Opposition As ADC Leader Claims Peter Obi Will Dump ADC For NDC Next Week.

Some top figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are reportedly preparing to defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Former Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, is said to be a key figure in the anticipated political realignment.

Sources close to the former Anambra State governor, who spoke with Punch, linked the development to rising dissatisfaction within the ADC’s internal structure and lingering uncertainty following a recent Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership dispute.

The Supreme Court had on Thursday set aside an earlier injunction that removed David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC respectively. However, it did not resolve the substantive leadership issue, instead returning the case to the Federal High Court for further proceedings.

While some party members described the ruling as temporary relief, insiders say it has increased tension within coalition circles ahead of the 2027 elections, with concerns that ongoing litigation could destabilize the party at a critical political stage.

Obi Loyalists Raise Concerns Over Zoning And Party Structure

Party insiders also claim that internal disagreements, including tensions with supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have influenced Obi’s reconsideration of his political platform.

One source said Obi and his allies are concerned that the ADC structure appears skewed in favour of a particular aspirant and that the party is unwilling to zone its presidential ticket to the South.

According to the source, these concerns have raised doubts about the credibility of any potential primary election within the party.

The source further added that ongoing legal disputes and internal crises have made the ADC less viable for Obi’s presidential ambition.

It was also disclosed that Obi has begun consultations with the NDC, which reportedly offered him an uncontested presidential ticket.

The source claimed, “All things being equal, in a couple of days, between now and next week, he is expected to dump the ADC for the NDC.”

Another aide confirmed that Obi is expected to publicly declare his next political move in the coming days, stating that an official announcement will soon be made to Nigerians.

Supreme Court Verdict Triggers Possible Exodus of ADC Leaders To NDC.

More leaders within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are reportedly considering a shift to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the party’s leadership dispute.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Supreme Court had sent the substantive matter back to the Federal High Court for continuation, a development that some party stakeholders say has deepened uncertainty within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

An ADC chieftain who spoke with Punch described the judgment as far from conclusive, warning that the ongoing case at the Federal High Court could still shape the party’s future direction.

He said, “There is nothing much to celebrate in the verdict. It is like postponing the evil day. The substantive matter is at the Federal High Court, and we have many bridges to cross on that.

“If, as expected, the Tinubu administration manipulates the judiciary against us, that will be too late for us, and it may hand Tinubu a cheap victory.”

The source further disclosed that several coalition figures, including members of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, are unwilling to abandon efforts to secure a more stable political platform.

According to him, the NDC is now being evaluated as a potential alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said, “That’s why, after reviewing the Supreme Court judgment, many of our leaders in the coalition, including the Turaki-led PDP, said we shouldn’t abandon the search for a safer platform.

“We need to beat Tinubu at his game. We are considering NDC and hope to finalise discussions on that in a few days.”

The ADC chieftain also alleged that there were plans within the Presidency to instigate internal crises within the NDC, similar to what he claimed had happened in other opposition parties.

He said, “However, we are also aware of the President’s move to sponsor crises in the NDC, as they have been doing in every opposition party.

“The Peoples Redemption Party had indicated interest in working with us and, after a day, the government brought a faction from the party. They are planning to do that in NDC as well, but we shall overcome.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have been in talks with its leadership as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party’s Deputy Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, made this known while speaking on emerging political movements ahead of the polls.

He said the discussions involved the NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, adding that consultations with both opposition figures had been ongoing for some time.

Speaking in an interview with Punch, Abdulsalam explained that there were indications of a possible alliance, though he stopped short of making a definitive confirmation.

He said, “Well, the most I can tell you is that they have been interfacing with our leader for quite some time. Also, do not forget that there is a possibility of an alliance that has been under discussion for quite some time.

“So, with the legal twist we are witnessing now, the legal uncertainties, I think there might be some credence to that. However, I cannot categorically confirm to you that it is true, but you should know that, to a very large extent, there is a possibility of it happening.”

The NDC spokesperson added that the party would be open to welcoming both Obi and Kwankwaso if they eventually decide to join its platform.

He further revealed that their names were reportedly received from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) about a month earlier.

Abdulsalam said, “Obi is most welcome at the party, not just him, even Kwankwaso too. They have discussed with our national leaders, so you should just watch out.

“We received their names about a month ago from the ADC. We are willing to give them the presidential ticket. We are willing to, you know, only Providence, except if Providence decides otherwise, we are willing, and they will join us.”
