Lagos State Government Triples Boarding Fees in Public Schools for 2024/2025 Session....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Lagos State government has announced a significant increase in boarding fees for public secondary schools, raising the cost from N35,000 to N100,000 per term. This adjustment will take effect starting from the 2024/2025 academic session, marking a substantial financial shift for many families.
In a formal communication addressed to all boarding school principals, the Director of Basic Education Services, Olufemi Asaolu, conveyed the decision on behalf of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The letter, titled “Review of Boarding Fees in All Public Secondary Schools in Lagos State for 2024/2025 Session,” emphasized that no additional fees should be charged beyond the newly approved N100,000 per term.
The directive was issued to ensure a standardized fee structure across all public boarding schools. Asaolu clarified that this is the only fee revision for the upcoming academic year. He added, “No additional fee of any form should be collected by the schools,” stressing the importance of compliance with the new directive.
Despite the considerable hike in fees, which nearly triples the previous amount, the state government has yet to provide any official explanation for the increase. Additionally, there is no information regarding potential financial aid for families who may struggle to meet the new cost.
The letter also confirmed that the resumption date for all public boarding schools remains September 15, 2024.
This decision is expected to have far-reaching implications for families, particularly those with multiple children in boarding schools. The sudden and steep rise in fees has raised concerns among parents, though many are awaiting further clarification from the state government regarding the rationale behind the adjustment and any possible measures to ease the financial burden.
