Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has awarded full scholarships to 30 talented students from the state to study at the Federal Government Academy, Suleja. This generous initiative aims to support the brightest minds from the region and further enhance educational development.
Speaking at the Government House while hosting the students and officials from the Muhammad Danbaba Centre for Women and Youth Development, Governor Lawal expressed his pride in the students’ achievements. He emphasized that their remarkable performance highlights the positive impact of his administration’s educational reforms.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Muhammad Danbaba Centre. Their efforts contributed to Zamfara’s emergence as the top-performing Northern state in the National Examination Council (NECO) entrance exams for gifted students, with many of the top achievers hailing from public schools.
Lawal took the opportunity to commend the students and their families for their dedication and hard work. “Your remarkable performance is a positive indication that our administration’s declaration of an emergency in the education sector was not in vain,” the governor stated.
Zamfara had previously struggled with educational performance, often ranking at the bottom in national assessments. To address this, Lawal declared a state of emergency in education last year and introduced sweeping reforms. “We are renovating more than 300 fully equipped schools across all 14 Local Government Areas,” he said. “Additionally, we have implemented teacher training programs to raise the quality of education in public schools.”
Drawing on his own experience, Lawal shared his journey of attending public schools, noting that he was the only one in his family to do so. “We are on a mission to revive the quality of public schools,” he added, underscoring his commitment to improving the public education system in Zamfara.
Governor Lawal announced that the 30 gifted students would receive full scholarships, with all expenses covered. He reassured parents that they would not need to bear any costs, as the government aims to support and nurture the next generation of leaders. “This is just the beginning,” he promised, indicating that similar initiatives will continue in the future.
Earlier in the event, Sarkin Malami, Chairman of the Muhammad Danbaba Centre for Women and Youth Development, outlined the centre’s activities and offered suggestions for further collaboration with the government to enhance its operations and impact.
