Thursday’s forecast remains similar, with early thunderstorms predicted for Taraba and Adamawa States, followed by heavier storms in Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba in the afternoon.
By Friday, the northern region will continue to experience thunderstorms, particularly in Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara States. These storms will likely be accompanied by strong winds, especially in areas with heavy thunderstorm activity.
North Central Region: Rain and Thunderstorm Warnings
The North Central region can also expect thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger States on Wednesday morning. As the day progresses, the weather is expected to worsen, with storms extending to Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and other parts of the FCT.
On Thursday, parts of Plateau and Benue will experience morning rains, with the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Benue States likely seeing thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. The pattern remains similar for Friday, with early rain expected in Nasarawa and Niger States, followed by localized thunderstorms later in the day in Kogi, FCT, Kwara, and Niger.
Southern Region: Rain Showers and Cloudy Skies
In the southern parts of Nigeria, NiMet predicts thunderstorms in the morning over Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. The storms are expected to be intermittent, with rain showers affecting states like Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, and Rivers later in the day.
By Thursday, intermittent rains will affect Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States. The forecast for Friday predicts cloudy skies in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and rain showers in both inland and coastal regions.
Public Advisory: Prepare for Possible Flooding and Strong Winds
NiMet has issued warnings for residents in flood-prone areas, urging them to stay alert as the likelihood of urban flooding is high in major cities due to the anticipated heavy downpours. Strong winds are also expected to precede thunderstorms, particularly in northern regions. NiMet advises the public to adhere to safety advisories and stay updated on weather conditions through official channels.
For airline operators, NiMet emphasizes the importance of obtaining airport-specific weather reports to ensure effective flight planning. The agency recommends that the public regularly check their website, www.nimet.gov.ng, for timely weather updates.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.
Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.
-
Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.
Frank Tietie’s Position
-
During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.
-
Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.
-
He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.
-
Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
