In response to the tragic incident that claimed the lives of four people at the Agu-Isioye community in Anambra State, the President-General of Nawfia, Chief Daniel Okoye, and the town’s traditional ruler, Igwe Daniel Obelle, have strongly condemned the attack. The leaders expressed their outrage over the killings that occurred on Monday at the border between Enugwu-Ukwu and Ifite Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area.
The incident involved some unsuspecting youths and residents of Agu-Isioye who were lured to a piece of land by armed assailants pretending to be potential buyers. Once the victims arrived, the attackers opened fire, resulting in the immediate deaths of four individuals, while others managed to escape with injuries.
This shocking attack has sparked a wave of reactions and accusations, with some blaming members of the Nawfia community for the violence. However, the leaders of Nawfia, in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, strongly refuted these claims. They emphasized that the town is known for its peaceful nature and commitment to dialogue, describing the allegations as hasty and baseless.
Chief Okoye and Igwe Obelle labeled the accusations as “inciteful, prejudicial, provocative, specious, and insensitive,” noting that such remarks only serve to heighten tensions between communities.
