High Court Grants Bail to #EndBadGovernance Protesters Amid Treason Charges....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Federal High Court in Abuja has set bail at N10 million for each of the ten members of the #EndBadGovernance protesters. They faced serious charges related to an alleged attempt to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between July 1 and August 4, 2024.
Bail Conditions Imposed
Justice Emeka Nwite presided over the ruling, admitting the protesters to bail after reviewing their applications. The court stipulated several conditions for the bail:
- Surety Requirement: Each defendant must provide one surety for the same bail amount, with all sureties being residents and property owners in Abuja.
- Property Documentation: Sureties must deposit property documents with the court, in addition to swearing an affidavit of means.
- Passport Submission: Both the defendants and their sureties are required to deposit their international passports along with three recent passport photographs.
Despite the objections raised by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the bail requests, Justice Nwite granted bail but imposed restrictions. The defendants are prohibited from participating in any public rallies throughout the trial process.
Court’s Decision on Remand and Trial Date
Pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions, the court ordered the accused to remain in custody. Their trial is set to commence on September 27, 2024.
