Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has expressed deep sympathy for his Borno State counterpart, Governor Babagana Zulum, following the catastrophic flood that has wreaked havoc across Borno. The recent flooding has caused significant destruction, affecting critical infrastructures and displacing numerous residents.
In a heartfelt message shared by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Zuru, Governor Idris described the flooding as unprecedented and highly devastating in recent years. His message, which was made public on Wednesday, conveyed solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.
Idris emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that vital government institutions, including the Government House, teaching hospitals, the Shehu of Borno’s Palace, the state secretariat, schools, and various business centers, have all been impacted by the disaster. He acknowledged the profound grief shared by the Kebbi community, stating, “Although we in Kebbi have experienced similar unfortunate incidents, we share your grief and are deeply pained by this natural disaster.”
In his message, the governor urged Governor Zulum to remain hopeful, suggesting that this incident should be viewed as an unavoidable act of God. Recognizing the recurring nature of such disasters, he proposed the establishment of a high-powered committee of experts. This committee would comprise members from states prone to flooding and collaborate with relevant federal agencies to devise lasting solutions to mitigate the impacts of annual flooding.
