The tragic murder of Sunny Taxman, a businessman from Enugu State, has raised alarm over the safety of individuals in the region. Taxman was killed by suspected kidnappers despite his family paying a ransom of N10 million for his release.
Taxman, who was based in Onitsha, Anambra State, was kidnapped three weeks ago while driving in his vehicle. Details surrounding the incident remain murky, but reports indicate that his lifeless body was discovered in a dry gutter at the boundary of Nkwelle Uke, near RCC in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A disturbing video circulating on social media shows Taxman’s body in the gutter, with bystanders gathering at the scene. This shocking revelation has ignited public outrage and heightened concerns regarding security in the area.
According to family sources, a ransom of N10 million was paid to the kidnappers prior to the discovery of his body. The source expressed fears that Taxman may have been killed after recognizing one of his abductors. “They kidnapped him on his way to a function three weeks ago and demanded a ransom. The sum of N10 million was paid to the kidnappers, but they still killed him. So sad,” the source lamented.
As of now, the Anambra State Police Command has not released any official statement regarding this unfortunate incident. Efforts by SaharaReporters to reach the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, for comments on the matter have been unsuccessful. It has been reported that Ikenga stated the police were not aware of the incident, despite its serious implications for public safety.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
