The Bauchi Police Command recently announced the arrest of five individuals involved in a criminal conspiracy and the receipt of stolen property. This significant operation highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to combat crime in the region.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, representing the state Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed, provided details about the arrests. Among those detained was a woman named Maryam Ibrahim, also known as Ummi, who is accused of receiving stolen tricycles from Kano State and selling them in Bauchi State.
The suspects include:
- Maryam Ibrahim (Ummi), 30 years old
- Adamu Sale (Brother), 30 years old
- Umar Ibrahim (Baba Luti), 31 years old
- Nasiru Usman, 29 years old
- Nasiru Musa Umar (Nass), 27 years old
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim has allegedly sold around seven stolen tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, within Bauchi.
This operation was made possible by credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities and the diligent work of the State Intelligence Department of the Bauchi State Police Command. Ahmed Wakil emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating that the cooperation and support from local residents were vital in providing the information that led to the suspects’ apprehension.
The recovered evidence includes seven stolen tricycles. Wakil reiterated that engaging in the receipt of stolen property is a serious offense under Nigerian law. According to Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act, individuals found guilty of this crime can face imprisonment for up to fourteen years.
