APC Demands Investigation into Osun State Chief of Staff over Allegations of Misconduct....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called for an investigation into Kazeem Akinleye, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Osun State. This demand comes in the wake of allegations suggesting that Akinleye leveraged his close ties with the state government to secure a lucrative contract worth two hundred and ninety-seven million naira (N297m) from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

In a statement issued by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the party expressed serious concerns about Akinleye’s conduct as a public official. The APC claims that his actions do not adhere to the highest standards of public morality and accountability. They argue that Akinleye’s involvement with the contract represents a conflict of interest, violating the Code of Conduct provisions laid out in Part 1, Section 5 of the Act.

The APC emphasized that Akinleye’s justification for resigning from his position as a director of the company involved in the contract shortly after his appointment as Chief of Staff does not absolve him of responsibility. They pointed out that the company’s management still includes members of his immediate family, raising further ethical questions.

Additionally, the APC criticized Akinleye’s assertion that the TETFUND contract falls under federal jurisdiction, arguing that this excuse is an attempt to mislead the public. They clarified that TETFUND is not responsible for procurement decisions regarding the project, which solely lies with the institution governed by appointees of the governor.

The party urged the Code of Conduct Bureau to conduct a thorough investigation into Akinleye’s conduct, as stipulated by the Constitution of Nigeria. They called on all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, to denounce what they view as an abuse of power and violations of state procurement laws.

In response, Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke, dismissed the allegations as unfounded. Rasheed characterized the claims against Akinleye as a “ridiculous concoction” and stated that there has been no breach of the Code of Conduct by the Chief of Staff.

Rasheed urged the public to disregard the APC’s statements, labeling them as the actions of “failed men of yesterday.” He reaffirmed the commitment of the Adeleke administration to uphold due process in all governmental affairs.

The spokesperson highlighted that Akinleye has never used his position to benefit personally, noting that he is not part of the governing board of Osun State University or the board of directors of TETFUND. He asserted that Akinleye had already stepped down as a director of the involved company prior to his appointment as Chief of Staff, absolving him of any accountability regarding the company’s operations.

“South Has Had More Time In Power” — Atiku Speaks On Zoning Debate

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has argued that the North is not disadvantaged in Nigeria’s power-sharing arrangement under democratic rule.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Atiku made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke on zoning, fairness, and political balance in the country.

He noted that since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, the South has held the presidency for about 18 years, while the North has governed for roughly 10 years.

According to him, this should be taken into account when discussing which region has benefited more from the country’s power rotation system. He also maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only major political party with zoning clearly embedded in its constitution.

“The South has governed for 18 years and the North for 10. So who is really in deficit if we are being fair? Even more broadly, the only party with zoning formally entrenched is the PDP,” he said.

Atiku also recalled the constitutional conference held during the military era under General Sani Abacha, where he led a group that opposed the inclusion of rotational presidency in the constitution.

He said the proposal, championed by the late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, was rejected at the time because his group had majority support among delegates.

According to him, Ekwueme later acknowledged that the decision may not have been ideal during his funeral years later. Atiku added that he now believes a rotational system, if adopted earlier, could have ensured a more balanced distribution of power across Nigeria’s regions.
