Urgent Call to Revert Petrol Prices: Nigerian House of Representatives Appeals to President Tinubu....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A recent directive from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) to raise petrol prices from N617 to N897 has prompted significant concern among lawmakers. The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) has urged President Bola Tinubu to revert to the previous price to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerians.

The price hike has triggered an immediate increase in the cost of essential commodities and transportation, significantly affecting the purchasing power of consumers. The committee’s chairman, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, expressed deep concern over the impact of the price increase in a recent statement.

“We urge the federal government and the NNPCL to consider the plight of Nigerians and suspend this recent increase in pump price,” Doguwa stated. He emphasized the need to revert to the old price as soon as possible and suggested intensifying discussions with key stakeholders to address the underlying issues.

Doguwa, who also leads the Special Committee on Crude Oil Theft and Vandalization of Pipelines, highlighted the committee’s commitment to tackling revenue losses stemming from oil theft. “As a special committee, we will aggressively seek modalities to interface with the youths and community leaders in the oil-producing areas,” he stated.

This initiative aims to address the ongoing challenges posed by frequent crude oil thefts that disrupt the petrol supply. The committee is collaborating with security agencies to secure oil pipelines and other critical infrastructure across the country.

“A return to the old pump price will calm frayed nerves, enabling Nigerians to carry out their daily activities with ease,” Doguwa noted. He also encouraged citizens to support President Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to reform the oil and gas sector.

Doguwa remains optimistic about the government’s plans to resume operations at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, asserting that these interventions will help resolve current challenges in the industry.
