The Kaduna State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and banditry. In a series of operations across the state, 11 suspected kidnappers were apprehended, and a cache of arms, ammunition, and a substantial sum of money was recovered.
In a statement on Thursday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed that the arrests are connected to the abduction of a district head on 14 August 2024. The victim was released two days later following a targeted operation.
Hassan explained that police officers, in collaboration with local hunters, conducted raids in three villages within the Lere Local Government Area. The raids led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of critical evidence, including a fabricated single-barrel gun, a vehicle, a motorcycle, and several mobile phones.
Successful Operations in Lere and Kagarko Local Governments
During the first operation, which occurred in Saminaka, police officers raided the villages of Maraban Wasa, Gurzan Hakimi Mariri, and Abugan Kurama in Lere. The following suspects were arrested: Abdulhamid Abubakar (30), Danjuma Luka (25), Ayuba Simon (50), and Idi Saleh (57). Their arrest yielded important evidence, including a green Golf car and a Bajaj motorcycle.
In another operation at a motor park, six additional suspects were captured. Their arrests led to the recovery of four fabricated AK-47 rifles, two English pistols, two pump-action shotguns, and ₦908,600 in cash. This ambush operation, based on credible intelligence, took place on 2 September 2024. The suspects—Lawal Murtala, Isa Kabiru, Auwal Surajo, Kamala Lawal, Umar Adamu, and Kabiru Liman—were apprehended early the next morning.
Arrest of a Suspected Bandit in Kagarko
On 3 September 2024, police operatives arrested a suspected bandit, Yahaya Yusuf, at a hotel in the Tafa area of Kagarko Local Government. Yusuf, a 41-year-old from Niger State, confessed to being involved in cattle rustling and kidnapping in both Niger and Kaduna states. Authorities recovered a Tecno mobile phone from him.

Kaduna’s Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the bravery and dedication of the officers involved in these successful operations. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with the police to eliminate criminal activities in the state.

During the proceedings, two of the defendants—Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu—further confessed to utilizing a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to train and incite members toward acts of terrorism. Furthermore, Abdulrazak Umar pleaded guilty to a separate charge of conducting unauthorized illegal gold mining activities along streams in the Chaza area located within Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area.
