Operatives from the Police Command in Katsina State have made significant strides in combating crime, recently arresting 22 individuals suspected of theft and vandalism. During a news conference in Katsina, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, provided details about the operation. He emphasized that these arrests are part of a broader effort to tackle criminal activities within the region.
Recent Arrests and Recoveries
On August 24, police apprehended three suspects, including a woman, in connection with a case of house trespass and theft. These arrests occurred at the GRA Katsina Divisional Police Headquarters, following reports of suspicious activities in Modoji quarters.
The stolen items recovered from these suspects included:
- Freezers
- Plasma televisions
- Computers
- Dining tables
- Chairs
- Drawers
- Mattresses
- Home theaters
- Inverters
- Air conditioners
- Generators
The total value of the stolen goods was estimated at N10 million. Investigators were able to trace the suspects quickly and found that they had conspired to break into the residence and steal these valuable items.
Investigation Insights
In the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement and identified an accomplice, Aminu Masa, who remains at large. Additionally, Mariya Adamu was named as the receiver of their stolen property. Police efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect while continuing the investigation.
Vandalism Crackdown
In a related development, on September 4, the police arrested a 12-member gang known for vandalizing armored electric cables and terrorizing the Katsina metropolis. This operation followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen regarding the gang’s illegal activities at Shaiskawa quarters.
