Lagos Residents React to Sharp Increase in Transport Fares Amid Fuel Price Hike....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A growing number of Lagos residents are expressing frustration over rising transport fares triggered by the recent increase in petrol prices. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPCL) announced a significant hike on Tuesday, raising the price of petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit, from ₦568 to ₦855 at its outlets.

Residents describe the current fuel situation as dire, with many stating that it has severely impacted their daily commute and financial stability.

Frustration Among Low-Income Earners

Beatrice Okonkwo, a local businesswoman, voiced her concerns, highlighting the burdens faced by low-income earners. “Today, I stepped out to get to my child’s school, and I noticed an increase in transport fare,” she said.

In her neighborhood, the fare from Gate to Cele Bus Stop has jumped from ₦200 to ₦300, while a tricycle ride from Ijesha to Yaba has risen from ₦200 to ₦400. “Drivers are even saying they would further increase the fares to recoup what they spent on fuel,” she added, urging the Federal Government to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

Call for Urgent Government Action

Another resident, identified only as Modinot, a civil servant, echoed Okonkwo’s sentiments. He stressed the need for the government to address the fuel situation urgently, noting that transport fare from Ipaja to Costain through Oshodi had increased dramatically from ₦1,000 to ₦1,700 within a day. “Workers are facing these increases while they have yet to be paid the new minimum wage. The government should listen to our cries,” he urged.

Commercial Transport Charges Surge

The effects of the fuel price increase are also felt by those who rely on commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists. Banker Tope Okunola shared her experience, stating that fares in her area, Festac Town, have risen from ₦200 to ₦300 for short trips.

Okunola lamented, “As transport fares go up, so will food prices in the markets. The ordinary person cannot eat again. The government should really address the situation fast,” she said.

Broader Implications of the Fuel Crisis

The recent surge in fuel prices has sparked widespread concern among Lagos residents, with many fearing the ripple effect it may have on the cost of living. The rising transportation costs are expected to impact the prices of essential goods, making life increasingly difficult for the average citizen. As the situation unfolds, residents are calling for urgent intervention from the government to stabilize the economy and ease their burden.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.

Published

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
