A fire incident at Oranyan Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, has resulted in the destruction of goods valued at millions of naira. The blaze, which erupted on Saturday, engulfed the herbal section of the market located in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area. As of Wednesday, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters and representative of the Oyo South Senatorial District, expressed his concern regarding the incident. In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, Alli referred to the fire as a significant setback for the affected traders.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) leader assured the impacted traders of his continued support. He called on relevant government agencies, individuals, and organizations to provide assistance to the victims of the disaster.
“I urge relevant authorities to expedite the ongoing investigations to determine the cause of the fire and to ensure that adequate preventive measures are put in place to avoid a recurrence,” Alli stated. He also emphasized the importance of immediate government assistance and relief to help the traders recover from their losses and rebuild their businesses.
Highlighting the need for community support, he appealed to well-meaning individuals and organizations to unite in helping the victims, stressing that this is a time for compassion and solidarity. “I reassure the victims that I will continue to advocate for their welfare and work towards securing the necessary aid and interventions,” Alli added.
