Officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps recently apprehended nine individuals for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of Lagos. This announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on X.com on Saturday.
Wahab stated, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.” This incident follows a previous operation where 17 individuals were arrested on Thursday night for similar offenses, including open urination, defecation, and failure to use the pedestrian bridge.
The Lagos State government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to open defecation as part of its broader strategy to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents. In conjunction with these arrests, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has initiated a cleanup operation along the Ojodu-Berger highway median to further combat open defecation in the area.
