Deadly Aerial Strikes Rock Russian and Ukrainian Border Cities Amid Major Military Shake-Up in Kyiv

Aerial strikes on both Russian and Ukrainian border cities claimed at least a dozen lives on Friday, as Kyiv made a significant military leadership change by dismissing its air force commander. The escalating violence and battlefield advances by both sides underscore the relentless nature of the conflict, now in its third year.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In northeastern Ukraine, a Russian aerial strike on the city of Kharkiv killed seven people, including a 14-year-old girl. The attack left at least 77 others wounded, with 18 children among the injured. Images circulated on social media depicted the devastating aftermath, with the top floors of a residential building torn apart and engulfed in flames.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, urging Western allies to intensify their support for Ukraine. “We need strong decisions from our partners to stop this terror,” Zelensky said in a social media post, highlighting the need for long-range capabilities and enhanced air defense systems.

Meanwhile, across the border in Russia’s Belgorod region, Ukrainian forces allegedly fired cluster munitions, resulting in the deaths of five civilians and injuring 37 others, including six children. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov shared a video of the destruction, showing fires raging and debris littering the streets.

The ongoing conflict has seen both Belgorod and Kharkiv repeatedly targeted by aerial strikes. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s renewed offensive in the Kharkiv region aims to create a “security zone” by pushing Ukrainian forces back from the border.

On the battlefield, Russian troops claimed to have captured three more villages in eastern Ukraine, including one in the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian forces, however, reported progress in Russia’s western Kursk region, capturing 100 settlements and over 1,200 square kilometers of territory since August 6.

In a related development, President Zelensky dismissed the head of Ukraine’s air force, Mykola Oleshchuk, following the crash of a US-made F-16 fighter jet during a combat mission. Zelensky announced the decision in a video message, stating the need to strengthen Ukraine’s military leadership. Lieutenant General Anatolii Kryvonozhko has been appointed as the interim air force commander.

The conflict also saw Kyiv calling on Mongolia to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin during his upcoming visit, in line with an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant issued last year. However, the Kremlin expressed no concern over the potential arrest, and it remains uncertain if Mongolia will comply with the ICC’s obligations.
