Taraba Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Combatting Terrorism Financing and Violent Extremism
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to tackling violent extremism and curbing terrorism financing, essential steps toward fostering a peaceful and secure environment for development. The workshop, designed to enhance the capacity of security agencies and community networks, focused on the early detection, reporting, prevention, and proactive response to violent extremism and terrorism financing. The event brought together key stakeholders from across the state, reflecting the collective effort needed to address these pressing security challenges.
Governor Kefas, represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Jeji Williams, emphasized that his administration remains resolute in its efforts to address the evolving threats of insecurity within the state. He urged participants to fully engage with the workshop, noting that their contributions are vital in providing the necessary community feedback to effectively counter these threats.
Commending CISLAC and the GIABA-ECOWAS Commission for their proactive role in raising awareness, Kefas highlighted the ongoing threat terrorism financing poses to society. He called for a united front in tackling this menace, which has persisted in undermining peace and security in the region.
CISLAC Project Manager, Mr. Jimoh Abubakar, in his opening remarks, outlined the workshop’s objectives, stressing the importance of grassroots and community-level discussions in countering terrorism financing. He pointed out that such financing often occurs unnoticed within communities, significantly impacting peace and security not just in Taraba State but across Nigeria.
The workshop featured participants from a broad spectrum of the community, including representatives from traditional institutions, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, as well as women’s groups, youth organizations, and civil society organizations within Taraba State. These diverse groups are expected to play a critical role in implementing the strategies discussed during the workshop, ensuring a coordinated and effective response to the threats facing the state.
