The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a bandits’ attempt to kidnap a young girl in Faru village, Jibia Local Government Area, during a pre-dawn operation on August 29, 2024. This was confirmed in a statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq.
According to the statement, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters at approximately 1:15 AM, reporting a bandits’ attack in Faru village that resulted in one person being kidnapped. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia swiftly mobilized a joint team of police operatives, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and local vigilante groups to respond to the emergency.
The team engaged the assailants in a fierce gunfight, which led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped victim, who was unharmed during the ordeal. The bandits were forced to retreat, fleeing the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by the operatives. He urged officers to continue their relentless efforts in combating crime and criminality, particularly focusing on kidnapping and banditry, to ensure a safer Katsina State.

Additionally, the accused admitted to being members of Darul Salam, an organization linked to the banned terrorist group Ansaru.
During the proceedings, two of the defendants—Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu—further confessed to utilizing a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to train and incite members toward acts of terrorism. Furthermore, Abdulrazak Umar pleaded guilty to a separate charge of conducting unauthorized illegal gold mining activities along streams in the Chaza area located within Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area.
