An accident involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in the Pleasure area of Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State, resulted in multiple injuries on Tuesday night. The incident occurred when a BRT bus, traveling toward Iyana Ipaja, attempted to avoid colliding with a commercial motorcyclist who was illegally using the BRT corridor. In doing so, it crashed into an oncoming BRT bus.

Following the accident, all injured passengers were promptly transported to nearby hospitals before the arrival of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Team.

Nosa Okunbor, the spokesman for LASEMA, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. He noted that the agency received distress calls about the accident around 11:39 PM and activated its Dolphin Response Team from the Igando Base.

“Upon arrival, the LASEMA Response Team discovered a road traffic accident involving two BRT buses,” Okunbor stated. “Further investigations revealed that the bus, while trying to avoid the motorcyclist, collided with another BRT bus coming from the opposite direction.”

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported due to the incident, but passengers on both buses sustained various degrees of injuries. The response team worked to clear the scene, utilizing two tow trucks to remove the damaged buses from the road.

“The recovery operation has been concluded, and the Agency’s Response Team has returned to base,” Okunbor added, assuring the public of the agency’s swift response to the situation.
