NUGLOW Vows to Defend NLC President Joe Ajaero Against Baseless Allegations
NUGLOW Vows to Defend NLC President Joe Ajaero Against Baseless Allegations....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The National Union of Gaming and Lottery Workers (NUGLOW) has made a strong commitment to defend Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), against any attempts to undermine his fight for workers’ rights. In a statement released on Tuesday by General Secretary Gregory Olatunji, NUGLOW condemned the Nigeria Police Force’s allegations of terrorism financing as “baseless and unfounded.”
NUGLOW emphasized the stark contrast between the colonial economic policies that have historically oppressed Nigerians and the welfarist economic policies that Ajaero advocates. The union accused the Tinubu administration of pursuing neoliberal policies that prioritize the interests of Western powers, resulting in widespread hardship for the Nigerian people. In contrast, Ajaero is recognized for his courageous efforts to champion the collective interests of workers and marginalized communities.
The union’s statement described the police’s allegations as an invitation to chaos. NUGLOW asserted that Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun is being used as a tool to intimidate and witch-hunt Ajaero. They lamented that, decades after gaining independence, the Nigerian police force still operates as it did during British colonial rule, acting as an agent of political and economic oppression.
“Without a doubt, Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun is unjustly targeting the NLC President,” the statement read. The union noted that Egbetokun’s patron has publicly labeled Ajaero an enemy of a government characterized by vindictiveness and anti-people policies.
NUGLOW expressed its concern that the Nigeria Police Force (NP) continues to serve the oppressive interests of a ruling class that dehumanizes the Nigerian populace. The union urged the need for the protection of dissenting voices that challenge the government’s authoritarian measures.
