Troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army, based in Kaduna, have successfully killed a terrorist and seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a recent clearance operation. This operation took place on August 25, 2024, in the areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the operation commenced when troops encountered terrorist elements, leading to an intense firefight. During this confrontation, one terrorist was killed, while others managed to escape with suspected gunshot wounds.

The troops recovered several important items, including:

  • Four AK-47 magazines, three of which were fully loaded with a total of 60 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
  • A PKT belt containing 86 rounds of ammunition.
  • Two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed during the operation).
  • A Techno mobile phone.
  • A Baofeng handheld radio.
  • An Airtel recharge card valued at N5,000.

The General Officer Commanding the 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major General Mayirenso Lander Saraso, praised the troops for their achievements and encouraged them to continue their efforts to disrupt the activities of terrorists and insurgents in the region.

In his statement, Yahaya emphasized the importance of community support in combating terrorism. Major General Saraso commended the residents of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their ongoing cooperation with the military. He urged citizens to utilize the Division’s Toll-Free Line at “0800 002 0204” to provide actionable intelligence that can aid in further offensive operations against criminal elements.

This recent operation highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Army to restore peace and security in the region. As hunger protests continue in the country, the military’s actions aim to ensure a safer environment for all citizens.
