Bode George Debunks Tribalism Claims, Blames Atiku for PDP’s 2023 Election Loss....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Bode George, a prominent member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has firmly denied allegations that he opposed the presidential bid of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election due to regional differences. Addressing the issue during a TVC political program on Sunday night, George clarified that his decision was not based on tribalism but on concerns about party unity.
The former National Vice Chairman of the PDP rejected claims from Atiku’s camp that his lack of support was driven by Abubakar’s regional origin. Instead, George accused Abubakar of dividing the party during the election campaign, which he believes was a significant factor in the party’s electoral defeat.
“When Buhari contested against Atiku Abubakar, I was at the forefront of support because, at that time, he was the favored presidential candidate. I know the efforts I made in Lagos, including my support for his first wife and our work in line with the party’s constitution,” George stated. He emphasized that tribalism plays no role in his political decisions, highlighting his long-standing friendships with individuals from various regions, including a close bond with a Fulani man he met during his military service.
George expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the 2023 election was handled, particularly the decision to back another Northern candidate after the region had already held the presidency for eight years. He warned that this approach was divisive and ultimately led to the party’s downfall in the election. “They manipulated the system, and we kept warning them not to do this. He divided the party, which led to our votes being divided, and consequently, we lost,” George explained.
Looking ahead, George called for the establishment of a committee to review the 2023 general election and the post-election period, with the goal of preparing the PDP for future challenges. He also urged party members to put aside personal ambitions and prioritize the party’s survival as the 2027 elections approach.
