Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command made a startling arrest on Friday, capturing Hauwa Sani, a female suspect, for concealing 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition in a gallon of palm oil. Accompanying her during the arrest was a two-year-old child from Doro village in Katsina State.
According to a statement from the police’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the arrest took place on August 23, 2024, around 5:10 PM. The police acted on credible information that led them to intercept Hauwa Sani while she attempted to smuggle the dangerous ammunition to her home state of Katsina.
The police report revealed that along with the concealed ammunition, the officers also recovered a Tecno mobile phone and a cash sum of 78,500 Naira from the suspect. The statement outlined the details: “Consequently, one hundred and twenty-four (124) rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, one Tecno mobile phone, and a cash sum of Seventy-eight thousand and five hundred Naira (#78,500) were recovered from the suspect as exhibit.”
Preliminary investigations indicated that Sani received the ammunition supply at Rafin Sanyi village in the Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. She concealed the items in a gallon of palm oil while en route to Katsina before being apprehended by police operatives.
In light of this serious incident, the Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of both the suspect and the recovered items to the Force Intelligence Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
