A tragic incident unfolded in the Tasake community of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, where bandits attacked and killed two officers of the Kaduna Vigilantes Service (KADVS). The incident occurred while the vigilantes were on a mission to protect local farmers from rising insecurity in the area.
According to sources, the attack resulted in the deaths of two local farmers as well, with several others abducted, including a woman named Amina Adamu. Amina was traveling from Buruku, where she had taken her daughter for medical treatment, when their vehicle was forcibly stopped on a bridge in Kwaga village around 4:30 PM.
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of terrorists began shooting in the Tasake village around 11:00 AM. The KADVS officers engaged the attackers and managed to eliminate some of them, but unfortunately, the vigilantes were ambushed. The two slain officers, Yahaya Nasafe and Yakubu Umar, paid the ultimate price in this ongoing battle against banditry.
In addition to the vigilantes, two farmers were killed during the attack, and many others were taken hostage. Passengers in another vehicle were able to escape the chaos. A source emphasized the need for a comprehensive military operation to address the persistent security challenges in the region, calling for action against the terrorists’ hideouts.
Furthermore, the source urged the National Communication Commission to monitor the communication of bandits to help security agencies track their movements and cut off their communication lines.
When approached for comments, Mansir Hassan, the Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, indicated that he would provide a statement regarding the incident soon.
