APC Criticizes Governor Adeleke’s N1 Billion Donation to Church
APC Criticizes Governor Adeleke’s N1 Billion Donation to Church....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has voiced strong criticism over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent donation of N1 billion to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Lagos. This donation, made by the governor and his siblings in memory of their late matriarch, Esther Adeleke, has sparked significant debate amid the state’s ongoing financial challenges.
In a statement released by APC chairman Tajudeen Lawal, the party condemned the timing and amount of the donation, questioning its appropriateness given the financial distress faced by Osun State. Lawal remarked that while supporting religious organizations is commendable, it should be done with discretion and consideration for the state’s current economic situation.
The donation announcement came from Dr. Deji Adeleke on Sunday, aiming to honor the late Esther Adeleke, a respected member of the church during her lifetime. However, reactions from the public have been mixed, with many questioning the logic behind such a substantial contribution at a time when state resources are limited.
Lawal emphasized the moral implications of this donation, stating that it appears to stem from the public funds of Osun State, which Adeleke is entrusted to manage. He noted, “It would interest the people, who are the real owners of the state’s funds, to know why it is during the tenure of the governor that it occurred to the Adeleke siblings to donate this money to their late mother’s church.”
The APC chairman also expressed concerns regarding the governor’s advisory team, suggesting that either Governor Adeleke lacks sound advice or fails to heed the counsel of his numerous Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants. Lawal pointed out the inconsistency in the governor’s actions, particularly when addressing critical issues such as the approved N70,000 minimum wage for government workers in the state.
“It won’t be an overstatement to state that it was from the scarce resources of the Osun State fund that Governor Adeleke used as a mega donation in the remembrance of his mother in a church in Lagos,” Lawal added. He concluded by asserting that while extending help to religious institutions is not objectionable, it must be balanced with decency and respect for the people’s welfare.
