The Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has granted permission to the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, to issue witness summons to additional individuals involved in the ongoing inquest into his death. This development comes as the court aims to gather more information surrounding the circumstances of Mohbad’s passing.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi issued a directive for substituted service on key witnesses in the case. The family has been instructed to publish the witness summons application in a widely read national newspaper and on social media platforms to ensure timely notification.

Among those to be summoned are prominent figures such as Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley; Samson Eletu, also known as Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo; Boluwatife Adeyemo, known as Darosha; and Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade.

Additionally, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the nurse who allegedly treated Mohbad during his final days, and Fidelis Esanbor, the driver who transported him to the hospital, are also included in the list of individuals to be served with witness summonses.

In a statement issued by their legal representative, Monisola Odumosu, the Aloba family confirmed that the Coroner’s Court approved their request on August 16. The legal team highlighted that they sought and obtained an order to compel individuals with relevant information to testify about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.

The application was supported by the legal team representing Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba. They agreed that the new witnesses should be served via substituted means in reputable national newspapers and social media to ensure their prompt attendance.

The application, argued by a legal team led by Mr. Wahab Shittu SAN, aimed to issue witness summons to individuals who could provide critical evidence regarding the connection and circumstances leading to Mohbad’s death. The late singer passed away under suspicious circumstances on September 12, 2023.

In addition to summoning new witnesses, the Coroner’s Court has also approved the recall of two crucial witnesses: Wunmi, Mohbad’s wife, and ASP Muhammad Yusuf, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) handling the case. Their additional testimony is expected to provide further insights into the ongoing investigation.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.
