Pidom Nigeria Missing: Calls for Action Intensify....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A popular Nigerian whistleblower, recognized by the pseudonym @PIDOMNIGERIA, has reportedly gone missing, sparking widespread concern across the Nigerian online community. Since August 15, 2024, this influential figure known for exposing high-profile corruption and human rights abuses in Nigeria has not been active on X (formerly Twitter), leading to a trending campaign, #FreePidom, that calls for their immediate release.
With a following of over 200,000, the prolonged absence of PIDOMNIGERIA has raised alarms, especially among those who admire their bravery in speaking out against corruption. Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has corroborated reports of PIDOM’s disappearance, expressing deep concern for their safety. In a tweet, he stated, “This is @DavidHundeyin tweeting. I have control of PIDOM’s account,” indicating that the situation is serious.
The reaction from the Nigerian public has been swift and passionate. A user identified as Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilisation remarked, “The reported disappearance of PIDOM is a chilling reminder of the dark forces that have consumed Nigeria’s democratic fabric. The very foundation of our democracy is under siege, and the silence of those in power is deafening.” This sentiment resonates with many Nigerians who feel that the disappearance of whistleblowers threatens the core of democratic values.
Others have also voiced their concerns. One user, Pearls, tweeted, “Nothing MUST happen to PIDOM NIGERIA. Where is PIDOM? Free him NOW!” While Sir David Onyemaizu urged followers to amplify the message, saying, “Anywhere you see the #freepidom trending, kindly lend your voice & repost. Remember, this is not a democracy. It can happen to anyone because the government is fighting tooth and nail to suppress the truth.”
Compounding the fears surrounding PIDOMNIGERIA’s disappearance, a document circulating on X indicates that @PIDOMNIGERIA, identified as Bristol Isaac, may be in police custody. Dated August 15, 2024, the document outlines alleged charges of computer-related fraud against Isaac. It details conditions for police administrative bail, requiring the production of sureties with significant property holdings and government affiliations.
According to the police document, “You are presumed to be on police administrative bail upon acknowledgment of this offer.” The stringent conditions outlined in the document have raised further concerns about the potential abuse of power and the suppression of dissenting voices in Nigeria.
The disappearance of PIDOMNIGERIA not only highlights the personal risks faced by whistleblowers but also raises broader questions about Nigeria’s democratic health. Observers note that the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers confronting those who dare to speak out against corruption and human rights violations.
As the hashtag #FreePidom trends, many in Nigeria call for accountability and the protection of whistleblowers. The ongoing silence from officials, including representatives from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, further intensifies calls for justice and transparency.
