The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration commitment to completing all abandoned projects for the benefit of citizens. During an inspection of the Ogbese Multi-purpose Dam along the Ikere Ekiti – Ise Ekiti Road in Ekiti State, Utsev emphasized the government’s dedication to revitalizing infrastructure.

Construction of the Ogbese Multi-purpose Dam began in 2009 but stalled due to funding issues. Prof. Utsev noted that President Tinubu has approved funds specifically aimed at completing this project, which is designed to provide water, generate hydro-power, and support irrigation efforts.

“We are committed to ensuring that every abandoned project is completed,” Utsev stated. “We are assessing projects across the country so they can deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.”

The Ogbese Dam, once completed, is expected to generate approximately 4 megawatts of electricity, enhance irrigation capabilities, and supply water to local communities. Currently, around 70% of the project is finished, with the installation of the hydro-power component and the water supply and irrigation systems slated for completion soon.

Utsev highlighted the potential economic benefits of the dam, including job creation for the youth and a boost to food production. He said, “We have successfully commissioned three dams in Kogi, Benue, and Jigawa States, along with numerous water supply schemes nationwide.”

The Director of Dams at the ministry, Ali Dallah, confirmed that the available funds have significantly advanced the project’s progress. Upon completion, the dam will provide water to about 450,000 people from the Ise Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti Local Government Areas.

Mr. Fahd Jammal, the project contractor, expressed readiness to resume work on the dam as soon as funding is secured. The Federal Government originally awarded the contract for the dam’s construction in 2009 through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, aiming to alleviate poverty and improve living conditions in rural and urban areas.

Makinde made the prediction after Mohammed was introduced at the gathering and described as an incoming senator.

Speaking at the event, the APM presidential candidate said, “Well, APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly because this is the reset agenda being put before Nigerians, so I dare to say that my national leader is the incoming Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Makinde also discussed the qualities he believes Nigerians should consider when choosing their next president, arguing that physical energy and the ability to tackle national challenges should take precedence over age.

According to him, the next president must possess the stamina to work long hours and respond effectively to the country’s pressing problems.

He stated, “While I will not make age an issue in this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late to deal with the challenges we face as a country.”

Makinde further challenged presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, urging voters to consider their capacity to handle the demands of the presidency.

“So please, when they bring their presidential candidates, let the candidates be able to jump, and if they can do that, vote for them,” he added.
