In response to a disturbing video that has gone viral, Augustine Grimah, the Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, has directed the immediate arrest and investigation of a woman filmed physically assaulting another young woman identified as Queen. The incident, which has elicited widespread outrage, involves severe physical abuse and trauma.

On Thursday, Grimah addressed the situation from Calabar, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. He highlighted that the arrest and investigation are crucial for understanding the full circumstances of the assault and ensuring that those responsible face justice.

The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, conveyed Grimah’s statement, noting that the police are taking the matter seriously. Ugbo remarked, “We wish to address the recent viral video circulating on social media, which shows a girl, identified as Miss Queen, being subjected to physical assault by a group of girls while in a hotel room.”

A letter from the police command, dated August 22, 2024, with Ref. No AZ: 5250/CRS/PPRD/VOL.17/247, confirms the incident. The letter describes the victim as “visibly half-naked” in the video, enduring the flogging for reasons currently under investigation. The police aim to identify and hold accountable those responsible for this act.

To prevent such incidents in the future, Grimah has called on the hospitality industry to enhance their guest profiling and background checks. “This step is crucial in preventing such disturbing incidents from occurring within their premises,” the letter stated.

The victim is receiving medical attention at a hospital in Calabar, where she is being treated for her injuries. Grimah assured the public that the police are committed to revealing the outcome of the investigation and maintaining safety and justice in the community.
