Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has initiated the distribution of food relief items donated by the Federal Government to over 10,000 families in the Mafa Local Government Area. This important initiative aims to provide essential support to households in need, highlighting the government’s commitment to alleviating hunger and poverty in the region.
The distribution event occurred on Tuesday at four centers in Mafa town, the headquarters of the local government area. Each of the 10,000 heads of households received a relief package consisting of one bag of maize grain. Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this significant intervention, noting that similar food items had previously been distributed in Gwoza and Nganzai.
“This food item constitutes the last batch of those donated by the Federal Government to the state. You can remember that we shared similar food items in Gwoza and Nganzai a few months ago,” Zulum stated. This initiative marks a vital step in ensuring food security for vulnerable populations in the state.
In addition to the food distribution, Governor Zulum announced the release of N150 million to support 15,000 females in Mafa town. Each recipient will receive N10,000 in cash, along with a wrapper procured by the Borno State Government.
“Each female head of household will receive a wrapper and a sum of N10,000 through our Microfinance Bank,” the governor explained. This cash support aims to empower women and enhance their livelihoods, further contributing to community development in the area.
Governor Zulum’s proactive measures in distributing food and financial assistance underscore his administration’s dedication to improving the living conditions of Borno State residents. As these efforts continue, the hope is that they will foster resilience and promote economic stability in the region.
