Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has shared his perspective on the Ballon d’Or, arguing that the accolade should honor players who leave a lasting, generational footprint on the sport rather than simply being handed to members of teams that capture major trophies. Mourinho asserted that hoisting the World Cup or Champions League should not automatically crown someone the favorite, noting, “For me, the Ballon d’Or has to be one of those players that when he finishes playing, we miss for eternity,” while citing legends like Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi. While acknowledging that a dozen elite players—including several in his own squad—legitimately compete for the honor, he maintains the prize should transcend team-level titles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Beyond individual awards, Mourinho voiced strong reservations regarding the upcoming three-week international break spanning September and early October, a result of FIFA restructuring the calendar to feature four matches instead of the usual two. He expressed particular anxiety over players who travel to national team camps but see little actual playing time, as well as the heightened risk of injuries upon their return to club duties. Managing player workloads remains a key focus for the Real Madrid boss following a demanding summer, especially as he prepares his squad—featuring standout talents like Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr—ahead of their La Liga fixture against Malaga.
