Lagos Govt Greenlights Protests: Citizens’ Right To Rally Amid HardshipsThe Lagos State Government has reaffirmed that the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled for August are within citizens’ rights, emphasizing that such demonstrations are legitimate. However, Salu-Hundeyin cautioned that protesters should ensure the demonstrations do not escalate into violence or cause destruction. She acknowledged the legitimacy of protests but urged citizens to avoid any actions that could lead to disorder or damage. “It is a legitimate right for citizens to protest, but people should be wary that it does not turn violent and destructive,” she said.
Salu-Hundeyin highlighted the efforts made by Lagos State to support its residents, stating, “Lagos State has done so much for its citizens that nobody in the state should stand up and say they are going to break anything. Sincerely, and I mean it; it is not because I am the Secretary of the State Government; I speak from my heart and God knows; there is no reason for anybody to cause any protests or riots or violence in Lagos State.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday morning to address the planned nationwide protest slated for August 1. This follows President Bola Tinubu’s plea to the organizers to postpone the protests and allow his administration more time to implement people-oriented programs.

News reports that the governor had on Monday alleged that extrajudicial killings were occurring in the state, calling on President Bola Tinubu not to look away.
Adeleke, who spoke in Osogbo, the state capital, while addressing the governorship campaign rally of the Accord Party for Olorunda Local Government Area, posted a clip from the event on his X handle.
However, some of his followers stormed the comment section to remind the governor of his past mistakes of attempting to align with the president.
While urging him to face his fate and stop crying foul, the commenters ruled out any possible intervention from the president.
