The Ekiti State Government has issued a stern warning to citizens against the practice of locating dump sites near residential areas. This caution comes amidst concerns over the potential outbreak of communicable diseases that could pose serious health risks to residents.
Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, delivered the warning during a monitoring exercise of the monthly environmental sanitation in Oye Local Government Area. She emphasized the need for residents to keep refuse and sewage sites at a considerable distance from residential areas to mitigate health hazards.
During her visit to several locations including Ire, Ilupeju, Oye, and Ayegbaju Ekiti, Mrs. Afuye stressed the importance of environmental sanitation for the well-being and safety of the populace. She urged residents to rectify the practice of locating dump sites near their homes to avoid potential epidemics.
Addressing traders at Oye Central Market, Mrs. Afuye reminded them of the State Environmental Sanitation Law prohibiting the display of goods during the sanitation exercise. She emphasized that violators would face legal consequences for flouting the law.
The deputy governor, accompanied by the Oloye of Oye Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju, formally reported the market traders’ non-compliance with sanitation regulations to the monarch. Both officials reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing environmental sanitation laws and holding violators accountable.
Oba Ademolaju expressed disappointment over the traders’ disregard for the sensitization efforts carried out by market leaders. He emphasized that such actions were unacceptable and warned against a repeat occurrence, highlighting the authority of the government to enforce sanctions against violators.
The government’s stance underscores the importance of maintaining a clean environment to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of diseases in the state.

‘VERDICT OF THE HIGHEST COURT’: Supreme Court Settles Oyebanji’s APC Candidacy Once And For All!
The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed by APC aspirant Mrs. Abimbola Olawumi, thereby affirming Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the party’s validly nominated candidate for the June 20 governorship election. In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Idris struck out the appellant’s applications, citing multiple procedural failings, including an unsigned written address, excessive pagination, and incompetent grounds of appeal that did not stem from the lower court’s judgment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The apex court’s ruling effectively brings a final end to the long-standing legal dispute over Governor Oyebanji’s nomination, which began when Olawumi alleged unlawful exclusion from the primary and sought to nullify his candidacy. The Supreme Court upheld the previous decision of the Court of Appeal, agreeing that the suit was statute-barred and that the constitutional time limit for hearing pre-election matters had lapsed. With this final legal hurdle cleared, Governor Oyebanji’s position is secure, following his subsequent victory in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, where he polled 319,224 votes.
