An 18-year-old teenager, Abiodun Adewuyi, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Osun Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ede for the theft of water taps. Adewuyi was apprehended by operatives of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after removing the items at Durodola community in Owode-Ede town.
According to Adeleke Kehinde, the spokesperson of the NSCDC Command, the suspect was caught removing the taps from a building on April 16 around 5:40 pm. This act contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun State.
Adewuyi was arraigned before Chief Magistrate V. A. Adedokun at the Magistrate Court in Ede on April 22, where he was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
Adeleke further explained that the suspect was found in possession of seven brass water taps at the time of his arrest, and investigations revealed that he sold the stolen items to buyers of scrap metals.
Reacting to the incident, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, urged parents and guardians to caution their children against such criminal acts. He emphasized the potential damage to the family’s reputation and assured that the NSCDC would continue to root out criminals across the state.
