On Saturday, over 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State made a significant move by decamping to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The decampees, hailing from Shanono and Bagwai local government areas, were warmly received by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Kano State Government House.

In a press release issued by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo expressed his delight in welcoming the defectors. He underscored the NNPP’s commitment to unity and equality among its members, emphasizing that everyone would be treated fairly.

Garba noted that Gwarzo reiterated the administration’s dedication to implementing programs beneficial to all Kano State residents and urged continued support for the state’s progress.

Earlier, Alhaji Haruna Babangida Abbas (Kosashe), leader of the defectors, cited Governor Abba’s leadership qualities and governance style as key factors motivating their switch. He expressed regret for their past affiliation with the APC and pledged their full dedication to working with the NNPP for the betterment of Kano.

Additionally, Kano NNPP Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, extended a warm welcome to the new members and assured them of their active involvement in the party’s activities. He encouraged members of other parties, including the APC, to consider joining the NNPP for the advancement of the state and urged support for the government’s policies.

The event witnessed the presence of prominent figures such as the Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, and various NNPP stakeholders who celebrated the influx of new members into the party.
