The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to release copies of loan agreements obtained during the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari………READ ALSO
In a Freedom of Information request dated April 13, 2024, and signed by SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization also seeks detailed information on the expenditure of such loans, including interest payments made so far.
SERAP urges Tinubu’s government to conduct an independent audit on the utilization of loans acquired by previous administrations and to publicize the findings of such audits.
The organization asserts that transparency in publishing loan agreements can deter corruption, mismanagement, and misuse of public funds. It argues that citizens have a right to know how their government is utilizing borrowed funds.
According to SERAP, governmental decisions concerning public funds should not be shielded from public scrutiny, especially when disclosure does not compromise national security.
The request from SERAP includes a call for accountability and transparency in governmental financial transactions. It emphasizes that citizens should have access to information about government activities, enabling them to assess governmental performance and hold public officials accountable.
SERAP highlights the significant amount of public debt accumulated by successive administrations, expressing concerns about potential mismanagement or diversion of funds. It emphasizes the importance of ensuring that loans are utilized for their intended purposes and that those responsible for managing public finances are held accountable.
The organization concludes by urging President Tinubu’s government to adhere to transparency obligations imposed by the Nigerian Constitution, the Freedom of Information Act, and international human rights agreements, emphasizing citizens’ rights to access information regarding government activities.

Ultimate Twist: APC Caves In And Drops Shocking Election Petition Against Adeleke.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially dropped its legal challenge against the re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke just a day after the petition was made public at the election tribunal in Osogbo.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The lawyer responsible for the filing, Oluseyi Oyagbile, confirmed on Tuesday that he discontinued the case following fresh instructions from party leadership and his clients. The withdrawal comes in the wake of an internal dispute within the party; another legal faction headed by Abiodun Layonu (SAN) had previously distanced itself from the lawsuit, asserting that neither the party nor its standard-bearer, Bola Oyebamiji, authorized a challenge against the August 15 election outcome.
Oyagbile noted that before officially dropping the suit, he requested formal directives via WhatsApp from party leaders to clear up any ambiguity and prevent further friction. Two separate petitions—one attributed to the APC and another to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—had surfaced on the tribunal’s notice board on Monday, both of which initially faced denials regarding their authorization from the respective parties. With the APC’s petition now dismissed, the ongoing legal scrutiny over the election rests on the remaining petition.
