Speaking to reporters at the command headquarters in Lokoja on Friday, the Kogi State Commandant of NSCDC, Paul Igwebuike, disclosed that Mohammed Yahaya, aged 36, was apprehended on April 3, 2024, at Sarkin Norma, Lokoja, during a routine patrol. He was found in possession of a locally made pistol and an axe. Igwebuike mentioned that Yahaya was accompanied by two other suspects who managed to evade capture.
Furthermore, Igwebuike informed the public about the arrest of Abdullahi Tukur, a 19-year-old male, for fraudulent activities and impersonation as a military personnel. Tukur was reported to have deceived members of the public by posing as a recruiter for the Nigerian army. He was apprehended on April 2, 2024, after being handed over to NSCDC by military personnel.
Both suspects are set to face legal consequences pending the completion of investigations, with Yahaya facing charges related to illegal possession of firearms and Tukur facing charges of impersonation.
In response to these incidents, Igwebuike issued a stern warning to individuals engaging in criminal activities within Kogi State, urging them to reconsider their actions and adopt lawful means of livelihood. He emphasized that those persisting in criminal behavior would face the consequences of the law.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, allegedly found in possession of the firearms and axe, denied any involvement in the crime, claiming innocence. However, Tukur admitted to impersonating a military officer.
Meanwhile, Barrister Abdul Abdulmumuni, the legal officer representing the Kogi State Head of Service, commended the efforts of NSCDC and the state administration in combating crime. He expressed hope that the apprehended individuals would serve as a deterrent to others, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement of the law to address theft cases in the state secretariat.
An Ogun State Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate O.L. Oke has sentenced two men, Moruf Okusanya (40) and Babatunde Gafar (33), to seven years in prison each without an option of a fine, following their conviction on a four-count charge.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Case Background and Prosecution
The convicts were apprehended following a violent cult clash at the Ikenne Town Hall on October 23, 2023, which severely disrupted public peace and local activities.
Prosecuting officer ASP Olaide Rawlings established during the trial that Okusanya belonged to the Eiye Confraternity, while Gafar was affiliated with the Alora Confraternity, alongside other accomplices currently at large. Their actions violated several provisions of the Prohibition of Forcible Entry and Occupation of Landed Properties, Armed Robbery, Cultism, Kidnapping and Other Anti-Violent and Related Offences Law of Ogun State, 2016.
Finding the prosecution’s evidence credible and compelling beyond a reasonable doubt, Magistrate Oke delivered the sentence to serve as a strict deterrent against unlawful secret societies and violent disturbances in the state.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.
