Seven Suspected Miscreants Arrested Amid Fuel Hike Protests in Ilorin....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has announced the arrest of seven suspected miscreants during a recent protest by commercial vehicle operators in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. This protest, which took place on Thursday, September 5, 2024, was triggered by a hike in fuel prices.
According to a statement from Ayoola Michael, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Kwara Command, the suspects were allegedly engaged in unlawful and violent conduct during the protests. They are suspected of being part of a group terrorizing residents in various areas of Ilorin.
The situation escalated when a report was made by Olusegun Taiwo, a local resident from the Sango area. While traveling to her office on a motorcycle, she was attacked by a group of youths. They forcefully seized her bag, phone, and other personal belongings. This incident prompted the NSCDC operatives to act swiftly.
Following the report, the NSCDC arrested seven individuals believed to have participated in violent acts during the protest by commercial tricycle and motorcycle riders. Further investigations revealed that these suspects were linked to the broader group responsible for instigating fear and unrest in Ilorin, particularly in the Sango area.
The protest, initially aimed at voicing concerns over fuel prices, was unfortunately overshadowed by the actions of these hoodlums. Reports indicate that they took advantage of the unrest to engage in theft, further disrupting the peace in Ilorin.
Umar Mohammed, the NSCDC Kwara State Commandant, reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining order. He emphasized that decisive actions would be taken against anyone involved in criminal activities that threaten the safety and security of the community. The suspects are expected to face prosecution in court as per the law.
