According to the Metropolitan Police, the car “collided with the gates” of the royal residence at approximately 02:30 GMT on Saturday.
Armed officers promptly arrested the suspect at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage, after which he was transported to a hospital for further evaluation, stated a spokesperson for the force.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, the spokesperson elaborated.
Security measures surrounding Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, are rigorous, with armed officers consistently monitoring the building in the heart of the capital.
The palace has encountered numerous attempted breaches in the past, including a 25-year-old individual apprehended last September for attempting to access the royal stables.
In another incident preceding King Charles III’s coronation in May, a man was arrested for hurling shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds.
Additionally, in the same month, a 43-year-old man was detained for driving his car into the gates protecting Downing Street, the residence of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
