Adeniyi Saheed Aremu, the Managing Director of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA) in Kwara State, disclosed this during the 42nd Media Parliament of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin.

Speaking on the theme “Ending Perennial Acute Water Shortage in Our Society,” Aremu stated that the decision to construct additional dams aligns with the priorities of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

He emphasized that the new water facilities would cater to various needs of the populace, as outlined in the government’s key performance index.

“As part of the presidential deliverables and priorities of this present government, we have it as our focus to construct as many dams as possible, and to have irrigation facilities so that water will be available for several uses,” Aremu explained.

He further highlighted the rehabilitation of existing water works by the authority under his leadership, aiming to assist state governments in water supply. Aremu mentioned that the raw water in Asa-Dam could serve the residents of Ilorin.

Additionally, he mentioned the authority’s initiative to provide solar systems alongside new water facilities to address the challenges faced by residents in affording diesel or petroleum to power their generators for water supply.

Abdullateef Ahmed, the Chairman of NUJ in Kwara State, expressed concerns over the daily struggles people face in accessing clean and safe water, emphasizing the long distances residents have to trek to obtain potable water.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the deadline for the conduct of its primary elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party also disclosed that it will release its primaries timetable within the week, despite facing ongoing internal challenges.

This was made known by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, during an interview in Abuja on Friday.

Idigo explained that prolonged internal disputes and legal battles had disrupted the party’s electoral preparations, significantly reducing the time available for planning.

He stated, “The prolonged legal battle cost us valuable time. It is only fair that INEC provides a window for the ADC to conduct credible primaries for all aspirants.”

Despite the setbacks, he assured that the party is actively pushing ahead with its internal arrangements.

“We are working round the clock, and we will be releasing our primary timetable within the week,” he added.

The ADC further urged INEC to uphold fairness in the electoral process by making allowances for parties affected by unforeseen delays.

According to Idigo, the commission has a duty to ensure a level playing field for all political parties.

He also revealed that the party has experienced significant expansion, claiming over four million Nigerians have registered via its online membership platform.

“As it stands today, the ADC is fast becoming one of the largest political platforms in Nigeria’s democratic history,” he said.

Idigo reiterated the party’s determination to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.

“We are fully prepared to dislodge the APC, regardless of whatever stumbling blocks may be placed on our path to victory,” he declared.

He further described the recent Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership as a major relief that has strengthened its stability.

“We will continue to pursue policies that serve the best interests of Nigerians and work towards building a just and egalitarian society,” Idigo concluded.
