The President made this commitment during the inauguration of the Nigeria Police Force Veterans Foundation at the Corporate Headquarters of the Police Service Commission in Abuja.
Represented by the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, President Tinubu underscored the importance of governmental and societal support for police veterans across all spheres.
Tinubu acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by police veterans for the peace and security of Nigeria, emphasizing their deservingness of comprehensive support.
He further announced plans to designate a specific day as National Police and Veterans’ Day in Nigeria, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the nation’s progress and stability.
“As the President of our beloved country, I am fully committed to supporting the Veterans Foundation and will expedite the process to review aspects such as improving the pension and severance benefits for retired Police Officers to adequately reflect their immense contributions and dedication to our nation,” stated Tinubu.
“Additionally, administrative measures will be initiated to designate a day, potentially March 5th (the launch date of the Veterans’ Foundation) or April 1st (marking the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern provincial police forces to form the unified Nigeria Police Force), as National Police and Veterans’ Day in Nigeria.”
Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of the Nigeria Police Force as a fundamental symbol of state legitimacy and the primary agency in Nigeria’s internal security framework.
Despite the prevailing challenges in the country, Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the government, emphasizing that current hardships are sacrifices necessary for the nation’s greater good.
Earlier, Solomon Arase, Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), hailed the launch of the Police Veterans’ Foundation as a significant milestone for both serving and retired members of the Nigeria Police Force.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
